This is the third time I am spending these precious words here in the kinté space after “How I’d Describe Myself in 25 Words, or Less” (2002) and “Snapshots of Space Time” (2004).

In this age of text messaging and twitter, Devin’s work takes economy to the microscopic sublime (with humor) and should be influencing those kids, young and old, chewing the cud of electric pop pulp.

Shá Cage: 3 Breaths (YouTube.com)

“Shá Cage: 3 Breaths (YouTube.com)” is online at kintespace.com.

These three Shá Cage YouTube.com videos catch this strong voice live. This is an interdisciplinary artist based in Minneapolis, travelling to Africa by way of Mississippi. Andrea Myers of tcdailyplanet.net introduced Shá Cage in February 2008: “Sha Cage is a woman of many talents, currently working in the Twin Cities as an artist, poet, actor and playwright. Her spoken word performances are both riveting and heartfelt, showcasing her talent for internal rhyme schemes, wry humor and strong will.”

To me, she represents ‘the Asian future.’ I wrote about this earlier in “Careful Remarks about ‘Her Banana’ by Mari Inukai.” Her many cherished portraits of her daughter, Sena, makes her literally the mother of one ‘Asian future.’

Fellow artist Amarpal Khanna interviewed Mari Inukai at the 2006 Gallery Nucleus show and we have the pleasure of presenting the streaming video for you right now. In case my introductions are not enough here is the Gallery Nucleus intro: “Born in Nagoya, Japan, Inukai moved to the US in 1995. She has worked at Cartoon Network and Mattel. Her Professional works include Nickelodeon and NGTV. Her short animated film, Blue and Orange, has been an official selection at numerous national and international film festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival 2003 and was the Japanese Grand Prix winner at Short Shorts Film Festival EXPO 2005.”

June 19: Summary reflections and a discussion of alternatives: Grandin, Conclusion; Parenti, Against Empire, Chapter 11; Williams, Empire as a Way of Life, Conclusion

Dr. John Marciano “A fundamental purpose of our meetings is to understand the systemic nature of the U.S. Empire and the economic and military imperialism that is its lifeblood. The historian William Appleman Williams argues that empire became ‘a way of life’ in the U.S., a ‘combination of patterns of thought and action that, as it becomes habitual and institutionalized, defines the thrust and character of a culture and society.’ This ‘way of life’ has convinced many U.S. ‘Americans’ they have a right or ‘manifest destiny’ to impose their political and economic policies upon others.”

Gerald Horne: From Cuba to Kosovo

“Gerald Horne: From Cuba to Kosovo” is online at kintespace.com.

This episode of CKLN’s Saturday Morning Live features commentator Professor Gerald Horne.
