Lisette grows up and is off to NYU!

Художник

Back in 2007, when I was a strapping seven-foot-tall baritone brother with five-foot-long dreadlocks, I wrote “A Tall Art Girl in Paris”—back then, photographer/artist Lisa Diane Wedgeworth, was accompanied by a little bundle, her daughter, Lisette. It is truly surprising to me to find out that, yes, time flies. Here’s an excerpt from a 2012 email from Lisa:

I know I’ve said this, but I really appreciate the support everyone has shown me. It really means a lot.

I was surprised by how many people contributed, I didn’t realize my community was so big. Thank you.

I’m going to NY!!!!

Sincerely,

Lisette

That’s an actual quote from Lisette. You see one minute she’s a baby doing baby stuff and the next minute she’s writing emails! So Lisette is not just going to New York—she is going to NYU! In an earlier email, Lisa explains:

Hola Loved Ones!

Lisette’s been accepted into NYU’s Precollege Summer Program for High School students! She’ll attend NYU from July 2—Aug 3, 2012.

Keep her in prayer and surround her with your love, she’s excited and nervous and I’m very proud of her!

Love, love,

Lisa

There was a small-big issue having to do with raising some funds to iron out the details but this was worked out! HighlightsProject_March2012

All of this great news is on the heels of two notable 2012 events in Lisette’s public life. The first is that Lisette got to see her mother’s kid-friendly artwork published in the March 2012 issue of Highlights magazine (Ring Things, p.28)—the second is entitled “Lisette’s First PROFESSIONAL Make-Up Artist GiG!”:

Two images attached of Lisette’s make-up gig for a PSA for The Delores Project (bringing colorectal cancer awareness to the African American community) the cute little angel at the end is the daughter of the woman who founded the project.

I am so proud of Lisette’s excellent progress and the support of the community that came to her aid. She was well on her way and just needed a little nudge—this is a far cry from the inner city blues I saw around me when I was in high school.
