Los Angeles Times: “Two of Castillo’s three installations at Tarryn Teresa Gallery are made of synthetic hair, and the third evokes flowing tresses but is made of rope. Hair — including its surrogates and artificial substitutes — is a perfect post-minimalist material, pure in line and rich in bodily and cultural associations. That suggestiveness helps give Castillo’s otherwise subdued work a measure of power.”

“An Iranian director talks about censorship”

Peter Aspden: “Kiarostami should have been in London to supervise the production at the Coliseum, but he never made it: he withdrew suddenly from a visa application process at the British embassy in Tehran which he likened to being ‘trapped in the very circles of hell itself’. He described his treatment as ‘disgraceful’, adding that it would be ‘tempting to brand [the actions of the embassy] Kafkaesque, yet to do so would be to imbue them with rather too much intelligence’.” I enjoyed very much exploring Kiarostami’s work in “Accusing Abbas Kiarostami of having no politics in his films…

“A quick interview with Vernissage TV”

we make money not art: “Apart from two funny experiences we are happy with the regard we get from PR offices. Two years ago we wanted to cover an exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt which was declined because they said that they had an exclusive deal with another internet tv station. And last year we weren’t allowed to cover the Murakami show in Frankfurt, because they only wanted national media. But I love such experiences, because they tell a lot about the art industry. Rewarding material for my novel I intend to write when I’m 95 years old. But you are right, we get more attention now than when we started, but I assume this is partly due to the fact that more people know us now. I also saw that some museums actively encourage bloggers to cover their shows, so I think there is an evolution.” I appreciate Heinrich Schmidt, his artistic support for the kinté cast.
