“SoundCloud is one of the coolest music apps around” and other links…

Mini Seedcamp HelsingborgJosh Lowensohn: “SoundCloud is a service for musicians to distribute their music to one another, and eventually the public. It’s not a marketplace like iTunes or Amazon though; instead it's a sharing network for musicians looking to hock their demos and get feedback on early tracks. You might be saying to yourself ‘doesn’t MySpace do all that?’ Well sort of, but the big difference is that SoundCloud is its own social network and offers more control over where tracks go as well as what bits of metadata come along for the ride.” Designer William Ismael let me know about this one by way of my cousin Quincy.

“What can I do with a free [SoundCloud] account?”

“You can send up to 5 tracks per month. Deleting tracks after you uploaded them will not affect this limit. Only the 10 latest uploaded tracks are shown. Older tracks are saved, but hidden as long as you don’t upgrade to a PRO account. You can create 3 sets. If you downgrade from a PRO account, older sets will be saved but hidden. Your contact lists can contain max 20 users in total. You can still have an unlimited amount of followers, and you can follow up to 2000 people (this limit also exists for PRO accounts). Your DropBox only shows the latest 5 tracks. Older tracks are saved but hidden as long as you don't upgrade to a PRO account. With basic stats you'll get an overview but can't see exactly who played or downloaded your tracks.”

The SoundCloud API

“Our API exposes the full range of SoundCloud functionality for third-party developers. Developers can upload tracks, access comments & tracks, edit metadata and more. This page is the starting point for all resources that you will need to develop an application or mashup of your own and aims to serve as a complete reference source.”
