Lizz Wright and others Today

Buy this CD at Amazon.com! Musician Lizz Wright is interviewed at NPR. She and her personnel inherit much from the house of Bernice Johnson Reagon. Being a new generation of an establishment is often frowned upon—but Lizz Wright is not the love child of Alan Thicke. Check out her Universal Music Group joint on YouTube.com.

Indian Thriller

Speaking of YouTube.com, my four-year-old daughter insisted that we watch Indian Thriller three (or more) times. This video is exactly what the title says: a Punjabi (?) version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Gott-damn!

The “Classic” Lil’ Wayne Interview

My pick is this “classic” Lil’ Wayne interview on YouTube.com… Listen closely when Lil’ Wayne talks about his mother—he does this frequently. He is clearly coming from that classic ‘peculiar’ relationship a son can have with his mother—and no this is not what you think. This stuff dates back to the days of John Lee Hooker—to feel what I mean, check out “John Lee Hooker: Hobo Blues” here at kintespace.com.

robinstrayhorn.com

It is after some anticipation that I can announce that a newly released version of robinstrayhorn.com is online today. The site has a slick Flash interface with lots of photos that reveal more of Robin Strayhorn’s great art work. And, yes, almost like Lizz Wright, Robin Strayhorn has blood out of the house of the great Billy Strayhorn. Robin is also on YouTube.com—check out “Freeman Manifestation: Robin Strayhorn Gallery Show” via kintespace.com.

Michael B. Platt

Michael B. Platt, b. 1948, Washington, DC is a visual artist known for printmaking, charcoal drawings, installations and lately, for computer-generated images. His subjects: the marginalized and the survivors. Drawing permeates Platt’s artwork and the figure prevails. Respect and passion for his subjects and subject matter are paramount. Platt believes that creating art is about having something to say; about renewal, experimentation and self-challenge.”
