The Microsoft Cloud

Microsoft Cloud Services: “Amazon and Google are both pushing cloud services and clearly this is an area that Microsoft is moving into as well. SSDS is the first of what I expect will be other such services, and it will be interesting to see how the various offerings compare. If nothing else, the competition between the various companies should drive pricing down, both for these services directly as well as for traditional application hosting solutions.”

Introducing Live Mesh: “This new software-plus-services platform enables PCs and other devices to ‘come alive’ by making them aware of each other through the Internet.” The danger of using this language to describe another new Microsoft technology may elevate expectations to Windows Vista levels making yet another PR disaster.

When I listen to the voices in “Meet the Live Mesh Team,” I’m hearing less grandiose things like Live Mesh is just a general-purpose synching platform for syndicated content (of any type). It makes Google Gears look like Bazooka bubble gum.
