Dare Obasanjo on .NET Rocks

Buy this book at Amazon.com!Truth is stranger than fiction. The truth is that we have to credit a show like .NET Rocks! For finally getting Dare Obasanjo to admit publicly (perhaps again) that he is the son of Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo. So what’s the problem? My ‘problem’ here is my trust for what Fela’s son [Femi Kuti](C:~shares\dataRoot\MSWord\Non-Fiction\Journal\Femi Kuti) sings and says about Dare Obasanjo’s father. Read a casual Blog post like “The Hypocrisy of Our Democracy #3: Did Obasanjo Really Kill Fela’s Mother?” when you really want to get beyond 419 scam jokes and be informed and serious.

  • Predominantly, Dare did not speak unless he was spoken to… this is far removed from what most (male) guests on the show do. Most of these professional technologists lecture at length. So one could argue that Dare was being a man of African reserve and poise (it can be vulgar to volunteer “too much” information)—but what should be more attractive to Dare is to behave just like the other guests on the show so that he is no different from “one of the boys.” This seems like Dare’s style to me (you can see this in the earliest of Channel9 episodes)—and it will keep him employed for the time being.
  • Carl Franklin spent a great deal of time trying to find out the extent of Dare’s technical experience. Remember, I’m the guy with several burned CDs of Carl’s shows—so I know when he’s doing something markedly different. Instead of attacking Carl (again) let me say that he probably was doing this in order to get his target audience to understand that Dare Obasanjo is a real technical power—and Carl is not trying some “politically correct” bullshit because he fell for the mythical liberal guilt trip. This effort was not graceful—but you won’t find many “regular” guys crying because they are unable to dance.
  • Dare mentioned that his father does not think his son has a “real job.” This comment went right past Carl Franklin and friends. One interpretation of this comment is that working for the largest software company in the world is nothing compared to sitting on top of world-class oil reserves coupled with a national budget exceeding 100 billion U.S. dollars. Let’s look at the stock prices of the energy sector and compare them to technology. Let the numbers speak for themselves. As Bill Gates himself says, let’s “be numeric” about this.
  • Yes, oh yes, a Nigerian 419 scam joke/comment was presented on the show but Dare Obasanjo let it slide. Instead of trying to guess why this happened, what can be said without any pointless debate is that Dare Obasanjo did not recognize the existence of these scams during the entire hour-plus interview. You want to call this “professional” objectivity? …go ahead…So, do you see the level of upper-class ‘restraint’ and ‘discipline’ from one Dare Obasanjo? Even on the most “mainstream” of technology shows, Dare makes a lot of uneasy silence due to adept occlusion. So certainly our “sordid” archive of Obasanjo Blog posts, “Dare Obasanjo, Digital Rights Manager,” “BAM and Dare Obasanjo,” and many more, is no exception. When you are going to be ignored here in the Americas, be ignored among the best… rasx() joins Femi Kuti among the great ignored… Being ignored by the likes of Obasanjo is a lifesaver…
