GNOME’s gedit has too few keyboard shortcuts. This is very strange for the keyboard-intensive, command-line Linux culture.

Microsoft’s Home Server should arouse the “real geeks” to tell me where the Open Source equivalent of this is available. A real [open source hardware](C:~shares\dataRoot\MSWord\Non-Fiction\Journal\Open source hardware) movement will be the beginnings of the rebel alliance against imperial “ease of use.” Until then, MS Home Server is an Xbox for adults who do not play games.

Google™ ‘explains’ why they ‘gave up’ on developer-centric APIs in favor of Webmaster Tools by, simply, releasing Webmaster Tools—specifically the “beta” Custom Search Engine is not designed for developers only.

Not really sure what intrinsic value the M$ home server has over any other Linux fileserver. I suppose the only difference is the Redmond offering is an appliance that is not likely to be inexpensive, low-end hardware. My home fileserver runs Slackware(2.4.10 kernel), and runs Celeron 333Mhz CPU w/64MB RAM. It has been running without issue since 2001. The box is an older HP Pavilion, that originally ran WinME.

Of course we are aware that this product was not designed for us, but it's still strange to me how much crap has to be packaged and sold to "compete" with our equivalent of rsync and ssh. And GNOME also has terminal services as well so this remote login stuff is already there as well.
