Flippant Remarks about Windows Forms 2.0

It may help to mention that I am a useless member of the volunteers reviewing Chris Sells’ next book about Windows Forms. After delays (on both sides of the book-writing fence), I am finally genuinely interested in reading Chris’ new book. This is because I am finally in a position to evaluate Windows Forms 2.0 via the MSDN Universal Subscription currently available to me. I just did not have the time to experiment with Beta bits on a virtual machine. Here’s a rough sketch of commentary:

  • DataTable objects with relations still produce unexpected results in Windows Forms data-binding scenarios. My memory is fuzzy about this one so this is stated without certainty.
  • Binding combo boxes to data objects is still not intuitive. At this newbie stage of the game I am extremely dependent on dragging and dropping the lookup table on the combo box.
