My Short-Lived Lives in California Politics

So we are pretty sure that my daughter, who is almost two, “read” my sample ballot for this year’s “special” election here in California. This means I had to go to http://lavote.net/locator/ to find my polling place. I found my polling place but almost every other feature—like getting a map to the polling place—threw up a bunch of Cold Fusion errors. This reminds me of Songhay System’s experience with building a Web site for the California African American Museum (CAAM)—some details of this experience are glossed over in “Songhay System Web Sites.”

My short-lived lives in California politics suggest to me that there is someone behind lavote.net using an old-ass copy of ColdFusion and Dreamweaver pining to catch up with the times. But the political appointees can’t (or won’t) find the resources to move ahead and what they are using now is “good enough”—at least for their masters’ eyes.
