Configuring & Using Apache Tomcat
It must be at least 10 printed pages, “Configuring & Using Apache Tomcat.” I was going to reference this article in my Funky KB but was unable to verify that these directions actually work. We have made a little over two attempts to install Tomcat but have failed. We just right-click on the Tomcat Service and the ‘starting service’ progress bar moves and then vanishes. There are no verbose error messages, only some cryptic ‘service failed to start’ message.
This leads me to the larger issue of how some engineers place value on difficulty solely for the sake of difficulty. Perhaps I am biased toward my experience with Apple/Microsoft products but it should not be so damn difficult to install software. The assumption here is that there is some political incorrectness going on here making this process difficult. I have yet to read that expose detailing how Microsoft can ‘inadvertently’ sabotage competitors’ software through very subtle subterfuge, but this does not mean it’s not out there…
